NORD Corporate Council
The NORD Corporate Council meets twice a year to discuss issues and opportunities
related to the development of orphan products. Its members are primarily pharmaceutical
and biotechnology companies. They range from small startup companies working
on a first product to well-established firms with numerous products.
Corporate Council meetings provide an opportunity for representatives of companies
to share information with each other and to hear speakers address topics of
common interest. Each meeting focuses on a particular theme. For example, the
theme for one recent meeting was “Navigating FDA Advisory Committee Meetings”.
Frequently, the meetings include presentations by guests from FDA. The meetings
promote the interchange of information among patient organizations, health-related
industries, and regulatory agencies, with the ultimate goal of facilitating
the development of safe and effective new treatments for rare diseases.
