The Advocacy for Neuroacanthocytosis Patients is an international association of doctors, researchers, patients, and patients' families and friends. It seeks to support patients and their families by facilitating communication and supporting research into the causes and effects of the diseases that make up the neuroacanthocytosis group. These are very rare disorders characterized by wasting of muscles with uncontrolled rapid muscular movements and abnormal red blood cells. A registered charity in the United Kingdom, this association maintains close ties with clinicians and researchers around the world. Its goal is better understanding and, eventually, therapies for neuroacanthocytosis and the other neurodegenerative basal ganglia diseases, including Alzheimer's Huntington's and Parkinson's diseases.
